Back in Thailand...

Saturday, January 30, 2010

It's winter again, which means I say goodbye to frigid NYC and head to Thailand for a few months. I'll be back in early April to start up wedding season and should have lots of fun things to post then.

In the meantime, here are just a few photos from my trip last year. I traveled all over the country but spent quite a bit of time with a fishing family in Chaloklum village in Southern Thailand, and with a traditional Thai healer and orange harvesters in the north. This was such a busy wedding year that I was only able to print about 10% of the film that I shot when I got back, but hopefully I'll have lots more to share when I return.

See you back here in the springtime!

Chaloklum fishing village:

Da' Som, 80 year old fisherman.

P' Dum and family.

P' Bea, taking a break during squid fishing.

Nong' Tdah with powdered face. Love of my life.

'Ajarn' - literally, 'teacher' - the traditional Thai healer I lived with in Mae Ai province, Northern Thailand:

Traditional massage with herbs, performed with foot.

Ajarn's son looks through the window.

Ajarn's mother, with Junior and kitty.

Nun, novice monk, at Mae Ai temple.

Orange harvesters in Mae Ai province, Northern Thailand:

Laureen + Colum Engaged

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Laureen and Colum were the winners of our engagement shoot during the Brooklyn Pop-Up Wedding Series/Brooklyn Bride raffle a few months ago, and instead of just taking traditional portraits I thought it would be fun to invite Natalie and Indira from éventus Planning to work together with me and style the shoot.

It took place around the West Village/Meatpacking District, which is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city for portraits because the cobblestone streets make a great NYC backdrop, and the Highline and the Hudson River are gorgeous at sunset. You rarely see flowers in engagement photos so Indira designed a casual bouquet for Laureen while we walked through the Highline. By far the most fun part of the shoot was the lovely picnic that the girls from éventus set up for us on the Westside Piers. Check it out below!
